HAMMER automatic horizontal strapping machine for high pallet loads

HAMMER horizontal strapping machine applying strap to a tall, wrapped pallet loadThe HAMMER is an automatic horizontal strapping machine that applies one or more horizontal straps to a palletized load, heat-sealing each strap on the side. The load remains stationary throughout the process. The horizontal arch moves up and down the machine’s frame, securing each strap around the stack so tall loads are stabilized layer by layer for storage and transport.

The standard arch has 1500 × 1500 mm internal dimensions and accommodates loads 500–1500 mm long, 1000–1500 mm wide, and 800–2500 mm high; custom arch sizes are available on request. Each strapping cycle takes within 15 seconds or less, tension can be set up to 90 kg, and the machine operates with For use with PP or PET strapping, 9–15 mm in width.

Horizontal pallet strapping machine positioned over a roller conveyor, featuring a control panel and strap reelHAMMER is built for integration into production lines and can be mounted over a roller conveyor. It features a Siemens PLC with a touch screen for manual, automatic, or continuous operation. Used together with the ARCUS vertical pallet strapping machine, your line can secure loads both horizontally and vertically.

As a pallet strapping solution, it is ideal for facilities handling tall, stacked loads. Manufacturer-identified applications include chemical fiber, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, printing and publishing, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, household appliances, and ceramics.

Horizontal strapping machine in use

How this pallet strapping system supports your operation

  • The load remains stationary. The arch moves vertically along the columns, so the pallet is not raised, rotated, or shifted during strapping.
  • Single or multiple straps. Select the strap count per load on the control interface, or use one button to apply a single strap.
  • Predictable cycle times. Every strap is applied in 15 seconds or less, making your pallet strapping process easy to plan.
  • Reliable seals every time. Side heat sealing secures at least 90% of the strap overlap, with the seal location varying by no more than 2 mm.
  • Adjustable tension for any load. Set the tension anywhere from 0 to 90 kg—gentle enough for delicate items, strong enough for heavy pallets.
  • Fits your strap and load dimensions. Compatible with 9–15 mm wide PP or PET strap, and the arch size can be customized larger or smaller than the standard 1500 × 1500 mm.
  • Complete pallet strapping performed in a single operation. When paired with the ARCUS vertical strapping machine, your loads are secured both horizontally and vertically.

Control, sealing, and safety features of the pallet strapping machine

  • Siemens PLC with Siemens SMART LINE touchscreen interface
  • Schneider contactors, relays, and pushbuttons; P+F or FOTEK proximity sensors
  • Manual, automatic, and continuous operation modes, plus a button for single-strap application
  • 105A strapping head with side heat sealing; heater is ready in about 30 seconds after power-up, and temperature can be adjusted
  • Pallet sensor and travel switch: the strapping unit advances to the load and begins strapping as soon as it makes contact
  • Upper and lower limit switches stop the arch at each end of its movement
  • Emergency stop button halts the machine at any point in the cycle
  • Aluminum-alloy arch, standard inside dimensions 1500 × 1500 mm
  • Strap dispenser fits coils with a 200–210 mm core and 400–500 mm outside diameter
  • Noise level does not exceed 75 dB(A); operates in temperatures from 0–40 °C and up to 90% humidity

How horizontal strapping operates on the HAMMER

  1. Turn on the circuit breaker: the power indicator lights up, and the heater reaches operating temperature in about 30 seconds.
  2. Select the number of straps per load using the control panel.
  3. Position the load in the center of the arch, for example, using a roller conveyor.
  4. A sensor identifies the pallet, prompting the strapping unit to advance until its travel switch makes contact with the load.
  5. The arch automatically moves to each preset strap height and secures a strap around the load at each level.
  6. To apply a single strap, simply press the strap button. The emergency stop button can stop the machine at any time.

Step-by-step sealing process of the HAMMER strapping machine

  1. The strap is positioned, and the machine receives the command to begin strapping.
  2. The right upper knife lifts and secures the end of the strap against the slide.
  3. The strap retraction motor pulls the strap back in 0.35 seconds, tightening it around the load.
  4. The swing arm applies a second tightening to the strap.
  5. The left upper knife lifts and presses down on the lower layer of the strap.
  6. The heater moves between the two strap layers, and the middle upper knife lifts, cuts the strap, and presses the layers together firmly.
  7. The knives and heater retract, and both the slide and T guide plate return to their original positions.
  8. The feed motor advances a new strap into position against the T guide plate, and the main motor stops: the machine is ready for the next strapping cycle.

Works with

ARCUS pallet strapping machine

Which strap types are compatible with this horizontal strapping machine?

This machine works with PP (polypropylene) or PET (polyester) strap, 9–15 mm wide and 0.55–1.0 mm thick, using coils with a 200–210 mm core and a 400–500 mm outer diameter. The strap path is configured for your strap width, so please specify which strap you use when placing your order.

What load dimensions can be strapped?

With the standard 1500 × 1500 mm arch, the machine straps loads measuring 500–1500 mm in length, 1000–1500 mm in width, and 800–2500 mm in height. If your loads are outside these dimensions, the arch can be custom-built to fit.

Does the pallet need to move between each strap application?

No, the load remains stationary while the arch moves up and down the columns. You can set the number of straps per load using the control panel.

How much time does it take to apply one strap?

Each strap cycle takes no more than 15 seconds. The total time per pallet depends on how many straps you choose to apply.

What is the adjustable tension range?

Tension can be set anywhere from 0 to 90 kg, making it suitable for both delicate goods and heavy stacks.

How does the machine seal the strap?

The strap is heat sealed on the side of the load. At least 90% of the strap overlap is sealed, and the seal position is maintained within 2 mm. The heater reaches operating temperature about 30 seconds after the machine is turned on.

What are the power and air requirements?

Requires a 380 V, 50/60 Hz three-phase power supply (3-phase, 4-wire with ground), 3.1 kW, 8 A, and compressed air at 0.4–0.6 MPa.

How is the machine operated?

Operation is managed by a Siemens PLC with a Siemens SMART LINE touchscreen, using Schneider contactors, relays, and push buttons. The machine can run in manual, automatic, or continuous mode; a dedicated button applies a single strap, and the emergency stop button can halt the machine at any time.

Can this machine operate in tandem with a vertical strapping machine?

Yes, it is engineered to integrate with the ARCUS vertical pallet strapping machine, allowing a single line to apply both vertical and horizontal straps to loads.

What are the machine’s dimensions and weight, and how do I collect it?

The machine’s size is 1930 × 3320 × 2800 mm (W × D × H) and its weight is 350 kg. It is prepared for collection partially disassembled in wooden crates, with the arch attached during installation. A forklift is required for handling.
