Paper strapping tape, 9–15 mm

This paper strapping tape is intended for bundling and banding, and comes in three widths: 9, 12, and 15 mm. It secures bundles similarly to a PP strap, and can be recycled with the carton after use.

Designed for light to medium-duty loads. Ideal for securing bundles of cartons, printed materials, profiles, trays, and palletized items that require holding together without high tension.

In a strapping machine, the band feeds from a coil, wraps around the bundle, and is sealed by the machine. The ECOBAND-S model processes paper and OPP bands 12 mm wide from a coil with a 40 mm core diameter, up to 160 mm wide and 0.12 mm thick.

When used manually, it is sealed with a crimping tool and seal. It is not suitable for use with friction-weld PP strapping machines, as those require melting the strap, which is not possible with paper.

Using paper strapping roll, 9–15 mm

The paper strapping roll, 9–15 mm, is commonly applied in the printing, packaging, logistics, and food sectors to keep bundles together during handling and transport when high tension isn’t necessary. It’s also suitable for bundling items on pallets when the load is stable and doesn’t need to be tightly secured.

When paper is used instead of plastic

  • Same material as the carton. Bundles secured with paper strapping can be recycled together with cardboard, eliminating the need to remove and separate plastic strapping.
  • Three width options. 9 mm for smaller bundles, 12 mm for standard cartons, and 15 mm for heavier loads or sharper edges.
  • Won’t damage your products. Paper bands distribute pressure over a broader, softer surface than narrow plastic strapping, which helps protect printed cartons and delicate items.
  • Compatible with banding machines. The band feeds from a coil, allowing automated machines to secure hundreds of bundles daily without manual handling.
  • Quiet and tidy. No heat, no smoke, and no melted plastic odor at the workstation.
  • Blends with packaging. Brown paper matches brown cardboard, giving the recycled packaging look customers expect.

Included in your order

  • Paper strapping band for bundling and banding applications
  • Available in 9 mm, 12 mm, and 15 mm widths
  • Can be recycled with paper and cardboard, and is biodegradable
  • Designed for securing light to medium-weight loads
  • Comes on coils for use with banding machines
  • Our 12 mm coil option: 150 m length, 40 mm core, up to 160 mm diameter, 0.12 mm thickness
  • Can be sealed in a banding machine, or manually using a seal and crimping tool
  • Not compatible with friction-weld machines designed for PP strap

Application process

  1. Place the coil on the machine’s holder and thread the band through the guides, or bring a roll to your bundling station.
  2. Adjust the band width on the machine and, if the machine allows, set the tension.
  3. Position the bundle under the band, or insert it into the banding machine’s arch.
  4. Allow the machine to wrap and secure the band around the bundle; if sealing by hand, apply the seal and crimp it.
  5. Inspect the first bundle of each shift: the band should secure the stack without cutting into the top carton.

Storage and handling guidelines

  • Tension. Paper bands can handle moderate tension. If pulled as tightly as PP strap, they may tear and won’t provide extra security.
  • Store in a dry place. Paper strength decreases if it gets wet. Bands stored in damp areas or under leaks may not perform as expected.
  • Width for the bundle. Wider bands distribute the load more effectively. For sharp edges, use a wider band or add a corner protector.
  • The roll. The core size and outer diameter must fit the machine’s holder; in our selection, this means a 40 mm core and up to 160 mm diameter.
  • Storage. Store indoors, in a dry place, off the floor, and in the original box. Paper can absorb moisture from concrete floors.
  • Not for PP machines. Friction-weld heads seal by melting the strap. Paper does not melt, so the machine will simply cut through it.

Before placing your order

You’ll find the price on this page. Strapping is chosen to fit both your bundle and your machine, so please review the following before ordering:

  • Width. Available in 9, 12, or 15 mm. Our banding machines are typically set up for 12 mm as the standard size.
  • Your equipment. A banding machine designed for paper or OPP strap, such as the ECOBAND-S. Let us know your machine model and we’ll confirm the correct coil core and diameter.
  • Bundle weight. Paper strap is intended for light to medium-weight loads. For pallets that require high tension, PET or PP strapping is recommended.
  • Dry or wet conditions. If your goods will be exposed to moisture or stored in damp environments, paper strap is not the ideal choice.
  • Manual or machine use. For manual application, you’ll need seals and a crimping tool; for machine use, no additional accessories are required.
  • Quantity needed. Our 12 mm paper strap is supplied in rolls of 150 meters. Calculate the meters needed per bundle and your weekly bundle count.

What is the standard width range for Paper Strap 9-15mm?

Paper Strap 9-15mm is available in widths from 9 to 15 millimeters, making it suitable for a variety of packaging applications.

Is Paper Strap 9-15mm appropriate for heavy-duty packaging tasks?

Paper strapping is most effective for light to medium-duty use; for heavier loads, materials like plastic or steel strapping are usually a better choice.

Can Paper Strap 9-15mm be used for sustainable packaging?

Yes, paper strapping is both biodegradable and recyclable, making it a sustainable alternative to plastic straps.

What types of items are typically secured with Paper Strap 9-15mm?

This strap is often used for bundling lightweight goods, boxes, and palletizing products where moderate holding strength is needed.

Is Paper Strap 9-15mm suitable for use with automatic strapping machines?

Many paper straps in this size range work with semi-automatic and automatic strapping machines that are built for paper or composite straps.

How does Paper Strap 9-15mm perform when exposed to moisture?

Paper strapping may weaken if it gets wet, so it’s best used in dry environments or with coatings that help resist moisture.

What is the best way to seal Paper Strap 9-15mm?

Paper straps are most often sealed with metal or plastic seals and crimping tools that are made for paper strapping.

Is it possible to order Paper Strap 9-15mm in custom lengths or colors?

Yes, many suppliers can provide custom options for length and color to fit your branding or packaging needs.

Does Paper Strap 9-15mm hold tension well during transport?
